Ovobank, Europe's pioneer in egg banking, has introduced Ovomatch®, an innovative facial recognition system that utilizes a sophisticated mathematical algorithm to identify donors with physical similarities to recipient patients. Connected to Ovobank’s comprehensive database, this technology allows for a more personalized approach while maintaining the strict anonymity mandated by law. Patients are prompted to input their physical characteristics and take a selfie; the app then displays the number of potential donors with high resemblance among the over 4,000 profiles stored in the database.
This marks the first application of facial recognition technology in egg donation treatments, offering a new dimension of matching precision. When couples or women seeking assisted reproduction with donor eggs inquire about potential physical resemblance to their future child, Ovomatch® provides immediate insight into donor availability based on phenotypic traits such as blood group and other physical attributes, without compromising donor anonymity.
The system complements Ovobank’s existing phenotypic matching process by integrating facial recognition technology. Ovomatch® scans multiple facial points of both donors and recipients, comparing these features through an advanced algorithm to identify donors who not only meet phenotypic criteria but also exhibit a high degree of facial similarity. This objective selection process enhances compatibility while ensuring full compliance with confidentiality regulations.
